G is for Growing (pains).
Creativity is like a teenager.
A hormone rampant chaotic teenager.
A wild thing, if left unharnessed, it can easily tip over out of control. The realm of chaos is where life happens and here we are trying our damnedness to grab some kind of reigns whilst we ride it bareback to god only knows where!
Growth is a continuous living on the edge: of who we are; of what we know; and of the great and often terrifying, unknown mystery of life. No wonder it’s easier to turn away from our creative life. No surprise that at this edge we can set up camp, peering out all talk of ideas and dreams and what if’s, without taking the step in. Not for the faint of heart, we can very easily end up living here in resistance, doubt, distraction, self sabotage and a seeping bitterness that resentment can fester when we don’t follow our creativity down the rabbit hole.
This edge is a dance, a two steps forwards one step back deranged foxtrot! It’s easier in some weird way to remain in the camp at the edge, the camp of the old way, the safe yet unsatisfactory familiar, and the comfortable discomfort of living in a way that’s far far too small for us anymore.
It’s a risk.
It’s not gonna look like how we imagine. Life or creativity never does…
